Jack Anderson - Biography

Born: 1953 Newark NJ
My life has been an overwhelming, but fantastic journey. I have Learned the importance of family,
unconditional love and creativity during my journey.
I have had a love for color ever since I have been old enough to hold a crayon.

I was raised on the mean streets of Newark, New Jersey. durning the 60\'s where I witnessed strength in a movement, unity as a community, brutality between races and the collaspe of a historical city.

As a young adult I became a product of my enviorment and a statistic. As I got older , I became wiser. I had a better understanding of the world and the oppertunities that exsisted outside the walls of Newark. It wasn\'t until then that I got the knowledge of who I am, a glimspe of who I can become and a vision on how to achieve my goals while on my journey.

I have a very wide range of influences. My wife, Cynthia, John Coltrane, Willie Butler, Malcolm X, Russell Means, Picasso, Sitting Bull, Billie Holiday, Jacob Lawrence, Paul Gauguin and Joanne Shenandoah, just to name a few.

Because of this journey, I was able to create these paintings that you see today. They all reflect my Native American and Afro-American backround along with my love of music. Every strike, every color combination, everyfinished pieceis a part of me, a part of my soul and journey through life.

I have been featured in group shows at

City Without Walls Gallery, Newark N.J.

Serengeti Plains Gallery, Montclair, N.J.

The Soul Cafe (sponsered by Iandor Fine Arts, Newark, N.J.)
